Job Objective

Build and manage teams to develop and apply new beverage process technologies and support the commercialisation of new beverage processing technologies which deliver sustainable competitive advantages for growth and/or brand value.  Responsible to manage APAC R&D Pilot Plant, Microbiology team, and all Lab Operations.

Key Result Areas
Lead the development and reapplication of new beverage process technologies that can drive a step change improvement in new product portfolio, existing product quality, process capability, and/or profitability to enable business growth
Build a strategic pipeline of process-based technologies and innovations for APAC region.
Support the commercialisation of new process technologies through commercialisation with successful market launches.
Serve as a member of APAC R&D Leadership team.
Continue to build the capabilities of the process R&D for APAC region.
Lead microbiology team to support all category new product and process developments and commercialization.
Manage APAC R&D operations including R&D labs and pilot plant to ensure all operations in compliance with internal and external standards and requirement including safety and working efficiency.

Lateral Problem Solving:  Must be highly creative and able to leverage concepts from non-beverage industries (especially food), and attack problems from multiple directions.  Must also possess analytical and judgement skills necessary to effectively assess ideas from both internal and external sources.
People and Team Management Skills:  Must be able to recruit and develop talent, build teams, and inspire others.  Further, must be able to encourage creativity, lateral problem solving, and strategic thinking among local teams that are typically weak in this area.
Deliver Results:  Must be self-motivated and have ability to effectively focus and motivate resources.  However, must also have patience to avoid managing autocratically, which is difficult to avoid in local environment.
Cross-Functional Relationships:  Must be able to build good working relationships and communicate the role of Process Development to colleagues in R&D, Technical, Procurement and Bottlers.  Must also be able to communicate technical concepts to non-technical colleagues and Senior Management.

Functional Skills
Thorough understanding of how food & beverage ingredients and products interact with manufacturing processes.
Understanding of principles of fluid dynamics, mass transfer and heat transfer, with basic knowledge of microbiology and some chemistry
Understanding lab and pilot plant operations, safety risks, and lab operational standards 
Project management and new process commercialisation skills
Knowledge of when, where and how much Process Development resources are required for a given situation
Ability to progress and further develop Process Development’s strategic pipeline of programs
Ability to build a business case for funding and manage resources to budget
Independent Judgment

Establishes goals and policies for areas of responsibility subject to review by top division executive. There is broad latitude for decision making.
Candidate must be able to develop a pipeline strategy 
Knowledge & Experience
15+ years experience R&D and/or plant operations with new technologies
10+ years experience in process development or process engineering function for food and/or complex beverages
10+ years experience managing reports
Education & Professional Qualification

BS, MS or PhD in Chemical, Mechanical or Food Engineering
Language Requirements

Fluency in spoken and written English required
Travel Requirements

Travel from 10 – 20% of work time under normal conditions
